Get Started
From nothing to your first roll — and what to do if you haven't got dice yet.

Welcome to RNGESUS. Whether you're a seasoned tabletop veteran or someone who just learned that d20 doesn't mean "20 dice," we've got you covered.
What RNGESUS is
A system that combines physical NFC-enabled dice with a mobile app to track your rolls, build your collection, and connect with other players. Think of it as giving your dice a digital soul — except less creepy and more useful.
Each die has a unique NFC chip embedded inside. When you tap it to your phone, the app recognises that specific die and generates a roll using its unique digital signature. Your lucky d20? It's actually lucky now. Or at least it thinks it is.
It's also two other things people don't expect: a full virtual tabletop — maps, fog of war, line of sight, initiative — and a tavern with games in it and people at the fire.
No dice yet? Start anyway. The account is free, and the tabletop, the tavern, character sheets and the social side all work without a single tag. Steps 1 to 4 below are about registering physical dice — make an account and come back to them whenever a set turns up.
Step 1: get the app — which you can't yet, and here's the honest version
The app isn't on the App Store. Not "we're between releases" — it has never been on it, and there isn't a TestFlight build you can join either. Two specific things are in the way: a privacy manifest the app target doesn't have yet, and an Auth0 config still pointed at the development tenant. Neither is interesting, both are mine to fix, and until they are, nobody outside can install it.
There's no price to quote either, for the same reason.
Steps 3 and 4 below need the app, so they're written for when that changes. Everything else works today in a browser, and that is not a consolation prize — the tabletop, the tavern, character sheets and the whole social side never needed the app. See the mobile app for where both builds stand.
Step 2: create an account
Do this one in the browser — it's the step that doesn't need the app, and it's free. Sign up with your email or an account you already have, and everything in the library above is open to you. We don't sell your data — honestly, we wouldn't even know how. Plus, what would we even do with a list of people who really like rolling dice?
One account covers the website and, when it ships, the app.
Step 3: add your first die
Registering a tag is a phone job — reading and writing NFC needs the native app, so this is one of the two steps waiting on it. When you have it:
- Tap Add Die in the app.
- Hold the die near the top back of your phone — that's where the NFC reader lives.
- Wait for the satisfying confirmation sound.
- Give the die a name. We recommend something dramatic, like "Harbinger of Crits".
That's it. Your die is now part of your digital collection and ready to roll.
Step 4: roll
Tap the die to your phone. The app works out which die you're using and generates a roll for its type. Your roll history saves automatically, so you can prove to your DM that yes, you really did roll four nat 20s in a row. They still won't believe you, but at least you'll have evidence.
What's next
Once you've got the basics down, there's plenty more:
- Check your roll statistics to see whether your dice are actually lucky.
- Add friends and compare your rolling prowess — including by tapping their die.
- Run a game on the virtual tabletop: upload a map, draw some walls, and watch your players discover that the corridor was a dead end.
- Build a 5e character sheet, tapping a real die for the ability scores if you have one.
- Pull up a chair in the tavern — dice games and board games, a fire, and a bar where you can buy a round but never your own drink.
- Browse the shop for more dice. You know you want more.
Welcome to RNGESUS. May your rolls be ever in your favor.
