Getting Started

Welcome to RNGESUS! Whether you're a seasoned tabletop veteran or someone who just learned that d20 doesn't mean "20 dice," we've got you covered.

What is RNGESUS?

RNGESUS is a system that combines physical RFID-enabled dice with a mobile app to track your rolls, build your collection, and connect with other players. Think of it as giving your dice a digital soul — except less creepy and more useful.

Each die has a unique RFID chip embedded inside. When you tap it to your phone, the app recognizes that specific die and generates a roll using its unique digital signature. Your lucky d20? It's actually lucky now. Or at least it thinks it is.

It's also two other things people don't expect: a full virtual tabletop — maps, fog of war, line of sight, initiative — and a tavern with games in it and people at the fire.

No dice yet? Start anyway. The account is free and the tabletop, the tavern, character sheets and the social side all work on virtual rolls. Steps 1 to 4 below are about registering physical dice — skip to making an account and come back to them whenever a set turns up.

Step 1: Get the App

Download the RNGESUS app from the App Store. Yes, it costs a dollar. I know, I know — in a world of free apps, asking for a whole dollar feels almost rebellious. But hey, that dollar helps keep the servers running and the developer caffeinated.

The app works on iPhone 7 and later (you need NFC capability to read the dice).

Step 2: Create an Account

Open the app and sign up. You can use your email or sign in with your existing accounts. We don't sell your data — honestly, we wouldn't even know how. Plus, what would we even do with a list of people who really like rolling dice?

Step 3: Add Your First Die

Got your RNGESUS dice? Great. Here's how to add them to your collection:

  1. Tap the "Add Die" button in the app
  2. Hold your die near the top back of your phone (that's where the NFC reader lives)
  3. Wait for the satisfying confirmation sound
  4. Give your die a name (we recommend something dramatic like "Harbinger of Crits")

That's it. Your die is now part of your digital collection and ready to roll.

Step 4: Roll!

To roll a die, just tap it to your phone. The app will detect which die you're using and generate a roll based on its type. Your roll history is automatically saved, so you can prove to your DM that yes, you really did roll four nat 20s in a row. (They still won't believe you, but at least you'll have evidence.)

What's Next?

Once you've got the basics down, there's plenty more to explore:

  • Check your roll statistics to see if your dice are actually lucky
  • Add friends and compare your rolling prowess
  • Try the mini-games for quick decisions and fun challenges
  • Run a game on the virtual tabletop — upload a map, draw some walls, and watch your players discover that the corridor was a dead end
  • Build a 5e character sheet, tapping a real die for your ability scores if you have one
  • Pull up a chair in the tavern — seven dice games, a fire, and a bar where you can buy a round but never your own drink
  • Browse the shop for more dice (you know you want more)

Welcome to RNGESUS. May your rolls be ever in your favor.
